New PlaceThe house rested on the corner of Chapel Street and Chapel Lane and was apparently the second-biggest dwelling in the town. It was built in 1483 by Hugh Clopton, a wealthy merchant and future Lord Mayor of the City of London. Built of timber and brick (then a new innovation in Stratford) it had ten fireplaces, five handsome gables and grounds large enough to incorporate two barns and an orchard.[1] Shakespeare bought the house in 1597, nine months after the death of his son Hamnet, for sixty British pounds. Shakespeare was associated with London for much of his life, and tradition states that he retired to Stratford in his later years, though he still visited London as late as 1614. He bought the house in 1597 but didn't move into it until 1610.Church of the Holy Trinity, Stratford-upon-AvonShakespeare would have come to Holy Trinity every week when he was in town, i.e. all through his childhood and on his return to live at New Place. His wife Anne Hathaway is buried next to him along with his eldest daughter Susanna. The church witnessed a sad episode shortly before Shakespeare's death. The day after Shakespeare signed his Last Will and Testament on 25 March 1616 in a 'shaky hand', William's son-in-law, Thomas Quiney was found guilty in the church court of fathering an illegitimate son by a Margaret Wheler who had recently died in childbirth. Quiney was ordered to do public penance within the church. The distress and shame for the Shakespeare family must have been immense. Within a month Shakespeare was dead and his funeral and burial being held at Holy Trinity on 25 April 1616.ShotteryThe village has a village hall, one pub (The Bell Inn) and the Santa Lucia (which has now closed) Italian cuisine restaurant, opposite the pub. There is one secondary school, Shottery Girls Grammar, and one primary school, Shottery St Andrew's CofE Primary School that has been open since the mid-19th century. The village shop and Post Office closed in the 1990s and is now a private house.Radford SemeleKenilworth (Abbey End · Castle End · Crackley · Ladyes Hill · St John's · Whitemoor · Windy Arbour) · Leamington Spa (Lillington · Milverton · Old Town · Sydenham) · Warwick (Bridge End · Emscote · Forbes · Heathcote · Myton · Packmores · The Cape · Warwick Gates · Woodloes Park) · WhitnashThe Regent HotelKenilworth (Abbey End · Castle End · Crackley · Ladyes Hill · St John's · Whitemoor · Windy Arbour) · Leamington Spa (Lillington · Milverton · Old Town · Sydenham) · Warwick (Bridge End · Emscote · Forbes · Heathcote · Myton · Packmores · The Cape · Warwick Gates · Woodloes Park) · WhitnashInformation by Wikipedia.com
