WarwickIn medieval times, Warwick remained under the control of various Earls of Warwick, mostly of the Beauchamp family, becoming a walled town. Today the only remains of the town walls are the east and west gatehouses. The eastern gatehouse now serves as part of the King's High School, a sister institution to Warwick School. Warwick was not incorporated as a borough until 1545.[3] The town's Priory was founded in 1142 on the site of the current Priory Park.Collegiate Church of St Mary, Warwick(position of Organist known as Director of Music from 1976)Warwick CastleWarwick Castle is protected against unauthorised change as a Scheduled Ancient Monument,[1] in recognition of its status as a "nationally important" archaeological site or historic building.[46] The castle is a Grade I listed building; it is listed with the castle's boundary walls, stables, conservatory, mill and lodge.[2] In 1978 Warwick Castle became a member of the Treasure Houses of England, a heritage consortium founded by ten of the foremost privately owned stately homes in England with the aim of marketing and promoting themselves as tourist venues. In 1978, Warwick Castle was sold to Tussauds, a large visitor attraction operator.[1] Tussauds performed extensive restorations to the castle and grounds in addition to opening its gates to the public. In 2001, Warwick Castle was named one of Britain's "Top 10 historic houses and monuments" by the British Tourist Authority; the list included Tower of London, Stonehenge, and Edinburgh Castle.[47] Warwick Castle was recognised as Britain's best castle by the Good Britain Guide 2003.[48]Radford SemeleRadford Semele is a village and civil parish in Warwickshire, England, close to the town of Leamington Spa. According to the 2001 UK census, Radford Semele parish had a population of 2,034.[1] It lies to the east of the town on the A425 road between Leamington and Southam. It has a 16th Century pub with a priest hole and a rumoured tunnel to the local church, St Nicholas[citation needed]. The local school is the Radford Semele Church of England School. This is a junior school and most senior school pupils go to school in either Southam, Leamington Spa or Warwick which are close by. As well as the parish church of St Nicholas, which burnt down in March 2008, the village also has a second church built in 1874, the Radford Semele Baptist Church.[2]Leamington SpaDuring the Second World War, Leamington was home to the Free Czechoslovak Army; a memorial in the Jephson Gardens commemorates the bravery of Czechoslovak parachutists from Warwickshire.Information by Wikipedia.com
