In 1100 the Normans built a motte and bailey castle. It was later upgraded by Earl Ralph in 1347 by building a stone keep. During the early 19th century[clarification needed] but was never completed and fell into ruin during the 20th century.
Residents of the town benefit from their proximity to Cannock Chase and indeed there is now a heritage trail funded by the National Lottery linking the town to Hednesford and Cannock with excellent disabled access. The trail is now complete and contains numerous notice boards highlighting the town's history.
The house was originally named 'Bhylls House', also being located on the still named 'Bhylls Lane'. The name was changed by the owner to encorporate his daughters' names, 'Bella' and 'Ellen'.
The house is one of the four houses of Coppice Performing Arts School, along with Chillington, Moseley and Bantock.
Tettenhall Lower Green is at the bottom of The Rock, near St. Michael and All Angels Church. It is a sloping grassy area, popular for sledging on snowy winter days, overlooked by The Mitre public house.
