Demolition took place late in 1997 and 13 years later the site remains undeveloped. Several turnstiles recovered from the site are still in operation at Whyteleafe F.C. in Surrey.
The Stadium was originally owned jointly by Stoke City F.C., Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Stoke-on-Trent Regeneration Ltd. However, in December 2007 Stoke City F.C. announced that they had agreed a deal to buy Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Stoke-on-Trent Regenerations shares in the stadium for £6 million, giving them full ownership.[10]
North Staffordshire is a world centre for fine ceramics ? a skilled design trade established in the area since at least the 12th century. But in the late-1980s & 1990s Stoke-on-Trent was hit hard by the general decline in the British manufacturing sector. Numerous factories, steelworks, collieries, and potteries were closed, including the renowned Shelton Bar steelworks. This resulted in a sharp rise in unemployment in the 'high-skilled but low-paid' workforce. However, at Q2 2004 the unemployment rate had recovered to almost the same as in the wider West Midlands. The city's present employment levels are currently stable and likely to grow from 2004 to 2008, according to a detailed 2003 study by Experian Business Strategies. About 9,000 firms are based in the city. Amongst the more notable are bet365,[34] founded by local businessman and Stoke City chairman Peter Coates,[35] and Phones4U a large retailer of mobile phones started by John Caudwell.[36]
Clock Face was once served by the St Helens and Runcorn Gap Railway at Clock Face station on Gartons Lane. The area is currently served by Lea Green railway station on the northern route of the Liverpool to Manchester Line. Arriva North West operate bus services in Clock Face, routes 32/32A/32C and 33/33A link the area to St Helens Hospital and the Town Centre as well as routes 121/122 (replacing 32A) in the evenings. Other bus companies serving the area include Merseytravel's 140 and 265 bus routes, Halton Transport's 17/17A/17B bus routes and Strawberry Bus' Line 1 bus route.
Broad Oak is a suburb of St Helens, Merseyside, England.
