Shifnal

The railway bridge over Market Place was rebuilt in 1953 that saw the open spandrels of the original arch replaced with a dourer flat panel construction.

Telford

It is named after Thomas Telford, the famous civil engineer. The town was built in the 1960s and 1970s as a new town on previously industrial and agricultural land. Like other planned towns of the era, Telford was created from the merger of other, smaller settlements, most notably the towns of Wellington, Oakengates, Madeley and Dawley. Telford Shopping Centre, a modern shopping mall, was constructed at the new town's geographical centre, along with an extensive Town Park. The M54 motorway was completed in 1983, connecting the town with the West Midlands conurbation.

Bridgnorth (district)

The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972. It was a merger of the Bridgnorth Rural District, Much Wenlock Municipal Borough and nearly all of the Shifnal Rural District.

Bridgnorth Castle

During the Civil War, Bridgnorth was one of the Midlands' main Royalist strongholds and in 1642 many Royalist troops were garrisoned there. In 1646, Cromwell?s Roundheads arrived with orders to take Bridgnorth for the Parliamentarians from the garrison led by Sir Robert Howard.[2] Following a three week siege, Cromwell was successful and he ordered that the castle be demolished. By 1647 little of the structure remained.[1] The Parliamentarians left it much as it is today, the stone from the castle being taken and used to repair the town's damaged buildings.

Bridgnorth

Other notable buildings in the town are the seventeenth century Bridgnorth Town Hall, a half-timbered building, and a surviving town gate the Northgate which houses the Museum. Daniel's Mill, a well known watermill is situated a short distance along the River Severn from Bridgnorth.
