Telford

Telford has a number of primary and secondary schools. Of particular notability is Thomas Telford School, a City Technology College (CTC), which claims to have a 100% pass rate at GCSE level, with all students achieving at least 4 GCSE's grades A*-C,[22] placing it at number one in the entire country for Key Stage 4 attainment. It was students of this school who were chosen to construct Airfix models of planes and tanks, and to assist Top Gear co host James May construct a life size model of a World War Two Spitfire on the first episode of the series James May's Toy Stories. Abraham Darby Academy (Performing Arts, Business and Enterprise), formerly known as Abraham Darby Specialist School For The Performing Arts, provides specialist performing arts education and is home to one of the UK's best school concert bands which has performed at prestigious venues such as Birmingham Symphony Hall, Royal Festival Hall London, Royal Albert Hall and also Carnegie Hall, New York.

Halton Stadium

Club secretary Tom Naughton was instrumental in raising the necessary funds but before the formal completion of the purchase in 1932 he died in a car crash, leading to the ground being renamed in his honour. Naughton Park stadium was owned by Widnes FC (later Widnes RLFC Ltd) but when financial difficulties set in they sold the ground to Halton Borough Council in 1995.

Widnes

Jack Ashley (b. 1922) was born in Widnes and was a local councillor there. He was then a Member of Parliament for Stoke-on-Trent for many years. He became a Companion of Honour in 1975 and was invested as a Privy Councillor in 1979. Ashton-under-Lyne railway station

Charlestown Station ? the present Ashton-under-Lyne station ? was owned by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway, who ran services between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge. The London and North Western Railway also ran services along the line, most only calling at Ashton and Stalybridge before continuing to Leeds. The station once sported a large booking hall, where the car park is currently, as well as a substantial canopy.[1]
