Shrewsbury

The current Mayor of Shrewsbury is Alan Townsend, who was officially elected mayor on 18 June 2009. Councillor Townsend was born in the town and has lived there all of his life, except for a few years as an undergraduate at University College London. The Mayor taught for many years at a local secondary school before serving for ten years at the Citizen's Advice Bureau. Throughout his adult life, Alan Townsend and his wife, Judy, have been prominent members of the community, known for their fund raising activities for local charities.

St George's Bridge

The bridge was variously described as Walshebrugge (in 1336), and Walshemanne's brigge (in 1351). A public convenience was built on it in about 1496 . One span was a timber drawbridge, while several shops had been built near the middle of the bridge. It is recorded that one tower was still in existence until late in the bridge's life. Above the main tower was a statue of Richard Plantagenet [disambiguation needed], removed in 1791.

North Cestrian

The school was opened on Tuesday, 9 January 1951 by Walter Hamblin, formerly headmaster of Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, with 26 pupils. In 2004 the library was named after him.

Altrincham station

There is a frequent service to Manchester & Bury via Metrolink, with a tram every six minutes to Manchester for most of the day (alternate trams running to Bury, avoiding Piccadilly). On evenings & Sundays this drops to every fifteen minutes, when all trams run to Piccadilly.
