Trowbridge is within the Westbury parliamentary constituency and represented by Andrew Murrison (Conservative). The Boundary Commission has announced changes to the constituency, and in 2009-2010 it will become South West Wiltshire.
The station building has a ticket office with 2 booths (1 disabled) which operates during daylight hours. Inside there are benches, vending machines and one of 2 electronic information signs. The toilets are usually available for use for the same hours as the ticket office is open, though have recently been permanently closed until further notice after the ticket office was robbed (2008). Also available are free METRO newspapers which are just outside the door to the building, under shelter along with further benches. Also on platform 1 are several covered bike stands and benches. Platform 2 has the other electronic display sign, bike racks, train timetables and a small shelter with benches.
The chalk uplands run northeast into West Berkshire in the Marlborough Downs ridge, and southwest into Dorset as Cranborne Chase. Cranborne Chase, which straddles the border, has, like Salisbury Plain, yielded much Stone Age and Bronze Age archaeology. The Marlborough Downs are part of the North Wessex Downs AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), a 1,730 km2 (668 square mile) conservation area.
It was bought by the Somerset Buildings Preservation Trust who, with help from a grant from English Heritage, restored the grade I listed building.[2] It is now owned by a firm of architects who converted the Chapel into a community facility for exhibitions, receptions, meetings and concerts on the ground floor. The galleried upper floor is used as office space.
A branch from Frome to Radstock, authorised by the same act of 1845, opened to freight traffic in 1854 and to passenger traffic in 1875. At Radstock this line connected with the Bristol and North Somerset Railway, providing a more direct route to Bristol than that provided by the Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth Railway.[4]
