Wincanton Racecourse

The track is located near to the yard of the trainer, Paul Nicholls and as such many of his promising young horses run here.[3]

Stow Hill, Newport

The ward also contains Newport Castle [3] on the banks of the River Usk and St. Woolos Cathedral [4] atop Stow Hill itself. It is also the location of Havelock Street Presbyterian Church where, in 1887, The Boys Brigade movement in Wales was founded by George Philip Reynolds. Stow Hill's earliest inhabitant was, according to legend, Saint Gwynllyw.

Newport

The title of Freedom of the City is a ceremonial honour, given by the city council to those who have served in some exceptional capacity, or upon any whom the City wishes to bestow an honour. Recipients include (in chronological order):

Newport railway station

Originally named Newport High Street, the suffix High Street became unnecessary on the closure of Mill Street and Dock Street stations to goods traffic in the 1960s[5]. Printed tickets and National Rail enquiries use the suffix "South Wales" to differentiate this station from its namesake in Essex. Newport Unlimited have suggested the station is officially renamed Newport City railway station.[6]

Woolhayes Farm

This site comprises swamp, mire and grassland habitats which are now rare in Britain. It is the largest known example of its type in Somerset and the communities present are near the western limit of their geographical range. The flora includes Corky-fruited Water-dropwort (Oenanthe pimpinelloides) which is a nationally scarce species. Breeding birds include Grasshopper Warbler (Locustella naevia) and Reed Bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus).[1]
