Britannia Royal Naval College

To enter as an officer cadet, British entrants must have 180 or more Universities and Colleges Admissions Service UCAS points. Prospective cadets then proceed to the Admiralty Interview Board, where they are tested mentally and physically. Several mental aptitude tests are administered, along with a basic physical fitness test and a medical examination.

Bayard's Cove Fort

Today, the site is owned by English Heritage, and sits at the end of the pier as an open shell.

Dartmouth, Devon

Dartmouth was of strategic importance as a deep-water port for sailing vessels. The port was used as the sailing point for the Crusades of 1147 and 1190, and a creek close to Dartmouth Castle is supposed by some to be named for the vast fleets which assembled there (Warfleet Creek). It was a home of the Royal Navy since the reign of Edward III and was twice surprised and sacked during the Hundred Years' War, after which the mouth of the estuary was closed every night with a great chain. The narrow mouth of the Dart is protected by two fortified castles, Dartmouth Castle and Kingswear Castle. Originally Dartmouth's only wharf was Bayard's Cove, a relatively small but picturesque area protected by a fort at the southern end of the town.

Newton Abbot Racecourse

The racecourse has a variety of corporate meeting, conference rooms, suites and private boxes as well as cafeterias and bars, and two restaurants: ?The Winning Post? and ?The Paddock?. Many of the rooms have views across the racecourse, whilst there is parking in and around the venue for 5,000 cars.

Kingsteignton

Kingsteignton was, until recently, purported to be the largest village in England, with a population of over 11,000. In the early 1980s Kingsteignton saw the unwelcome practise of new businesss along Newton Road incorrectly giving their location as Newton Abbot and in 1982 the parish council, spurred on by a comment made by the Clerk to Newton Abbot Council that Newton Abbot would take over Kingsteignton, decided that Kingsteignton should become a town to protect its separate identity. The decision to change its status without any consultation angered many residents and a referendum restored the village status. Kingsteignton became a town once again without any consultation with its residents with effect from January 1, 2009.[2] The greater part of Newton Abbot Racecourse lies within the bounds of Kingsteignton, the remainder being situated within Teigngrace parish. Unfortunately, neither place gets any publicity for being home to the racecourse.
