The earliest records and archaeological findings of a permanent settlement in the Truro area originate from Norman times[citation needed]. A castle was built in the 12th century by Richard de Luci, Chief Justice of England in the reign of Henry II, who was granted land in Cornwall for his services to the court, including the area surrounding the confluence of the two rivers. He planted the town in the shadow of the castle and awarded it borough status to further economic activity. (The castle has long since gone).
Kenwyn (Cornish: Keynwynn) is a civil parish in Cornwall, England, in the United Kingdom. Kenwyn is now regarded as a suburb of the city of Truro and gives its name to one of three rivers that flow through the city.
The building we see today was built in 1846 from Carn Brea granite originally housing the Town Hall, magistrates and stannary courts, police offices, cells and the fire brigade. In 1909 plans were drawn up to change the building into a public hall. This culminated in it being leased for a skating rink and occasional picture house. In 1914 disaster struck when a fire gutted most of the building and in 1925 remodelling took place to accommodate a stage suitable for the presentation of plays.
Redruth (Cornish: Resrudh, pronounced 're-DRUTH') is a town and civil parish traditionally in the Penwith Hundred in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It has a population of 12,352.[1] Redruth lies approximately at the junction of the A393 and A3047 roads, on the route of the old London to Land's End trunk road, the A30 and is approximately 9 miles (14 km) west of Truro, 12 miles (19 km) east of St Ives, 18 miles (29 km) north east of Penzance and 11 miles (18 km) north west of Falmouth. Camborne and Redruth together form the largest urban area in Cornwall and before local government reorganisation were an Urban District.
A microwave transmitting tower located on the hill, Carnmenellis, 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Redruth. It is owned and run by BT.
