Tuckingmill

The area consists of terraced miners cottages and rather barren industrialisation. With the demise of this economic activity many thousands of jobs were lost and Tuckingmill became a bleak post- industrialisation urban area. However, in recent years regeneration has picked up and improvements are expected over the next few years. Kerrier Council's bid for £23 million from the BIG Lottery Fund was successful - and announced in November 2007. The grant will be used to re-build the Pool area between Redruth and Camborne (Pool sits at the top of East Hill, immediately next to Tuckingmill).

Hayle

Harvey's of Hayle reached their peak in the early/mid-19th century but, along with the other foundries and engineering works in Hayle, began a long and slow decline. Harvey's acquired the Cornish Copper Company in 1875 but the downturn continued. The engineering works and Foundry were closed in 1903 though the company continued to trade as general and builders merchant, eventually merging with UBM to become Harvey-UBM in 1969.

Phillack

There is some dispute over the origins of the name. In the 17th century, Phillack was believed to refer to the Irish Saint Felicitas who is said to have founded Phillack church in the 6th century. However, a 10th century Vatican codex mentions a Saint Felec of Cornwall who is believed to have lived about the same time and may be dedicatee of the parish church[2]

The Towans

The Towans habitat of sand dune and grassland is suited to a variety of wildlife and plants including the pyramidal orchid, the glow worm, the silver-studded blue butterfly, and the skylark.[6]. Much of the area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Redruth transmitting station

A microwave transmitting tower located on the hill, Carnmenellis, 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Redruth. It is owned and run by BT.
