The pronunciation of the village name is traditionally /?ko?t?m/ "COAT-?m", although these days many people pronounce it /?kuːt?m/ "COOT-?m", after the way in which it is spelt.
July 2008 marked the band's centenary.
Just outside Bramber, in the direction of Botolphs village, there was a medieval hospital and nunnery, caring for sufferers of leprosy, and dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene. Although long since closed, this part of Bramber is still known (by corruption of the saint's name) as the 'Maudlin District'. Maudlyn House stands on the site of the hospital, and nearby roads include Maudlin Lane, Maudlyn Park, Maudlyn Parkway, and Maudlyn Close.
Upper Beeding is a village and civil parish in the Horsham District of West Sussex, England. It is located at the northern end of the River Adur gap in the South Downs four miles (6.4km) north of Shoreham-by-Sea and has a land area of 1877hectares (4637acres). The site is a bridging point over the river: on the opposite bank are Bramber and Steyning, making the whole area somewhat built-up.
William De Braose constructed the castle c1070,[1] along with the Norman church, on a natural mound and most of the surviving masonry dates from this time. Except for a period of confiscation during the reign of King John, Bramber Castle remained in the ownership of the De Braose family until the line died out in 1324. During Norman times the coastline would have been much further inland, and at high tide the water would have reached the castle walls.
