The museum was subsidised by Oxfordshire County Council.[6] At the end of the summer season on 31 August 2009 the council withdrew funding and the museum closed. A new charitable trust intends to reopen the museum in April 2010.[7][8][9]
In July 2007 Witney saw its worst flooding in more than 50 years. Homes and businesses were evacuated and Bridge Street, a major road into the town and the only road across the Windrush, was closed. About 200 properties in central Witney were flooded, with areas around Bridge Street, Mill Street and West End the worst affected. The new and incomplete housing development Aquarius also suffered substantial flooding.
The LSWR opened their Milford station on the Eastern side of the city in 1 March 1847, with the opening of their branch line from Southampton to passenger traffic. For nearly a decade this was the only rail route to the city, until 30 June 1856 when the GWR opened their branch line from Westbury, and 1 May 1857 when the LSWR extended their main line from from London to Andover.[1]
It is now an English Heritage property and open to the public.
Now commonly used as by BMX and MTB enthusiasts as a place to exercise their skill on the many formed jumps.
