Andover, Hampshire

The woollen industry had declined but new industries took its place. Taskers Waterloo Ironworks opened at Anna Valley in 1809 and flourished. Many examples of the machinery produced by Taskers can be seen at the Milestones Museum in Basingstoke.

Upper Clatford

Upper Clatford is a village in Hampshire, England. The village lies in the valley of the River Anton, several miles upstream of the point where it joins the River Test, just to the south of Andover. Clatford is an old English term meaning 'the ford where the burdock grows. The local parish Church of All Saints was first built probably during the reign of Henry I (1100-1135) as its massive columns and round arches are typical of the first half of the 12th century. It was rebuilt in the 16th century and transformed into an 'auditory church' in the 17th century. Even so, a large proportion of the congregation still cannot see the altar. The Church rests between two arms of the Pillbrook; the village war memorial is also within its grounds.

Reading Blue Coat School

Plans are currently being finalised for a replacement of the Dunster and Gaines-Cooper buildings and construction (or rather demolition) is expected to start over Easter 2011.

Sonning Cutting

Sonning Cutting is on the original Great Western Railway built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It is to the east of Reading station and to the west of Twyford station near the riverside village of Sonning in Berkshire, England. Originally it had been intended to route the railway around the north of the hill past the village in the early 19th century. However instead, due to local objections, the railway bypassed the village and a deep cutting through the hill was created instead, taking a much more direct route between Twyford and Reading.

Bulmershe Court

Bulmershe first appears in existing records in the 12th century as a place in the parish of Sonning. The first reference to it as a manor was in 1447 when it was granted to Reading Abbey. After the dissolution of the monasteries, the land was acquired by the poet William Gray. He probably built the first house here, the remains of which may be the basis of the present Bulmershe Manor.
