Broughton (pronounced /?br?ːt?n/)[2] is a historic village in North Buckinghamshire that has been a constituent element of Milton Keynes since the latter's designation in 1967; a civil parish; and modernly a suburb and new district of the 'city'[3].
During the Black Books episode "Party", Fran Katzenjammer (Tamsin Greig) informs Manny Bianco (Bill Bailey) that he was admitted to The Open University, however his Admission Letter was destroyed by Bernard Black (Dylan Moran).
In 1290 Dunstable was one of twelve sites to erect an Eleanor cross recognising Eleanor of Castile, wife of Edward I, whose coffin was laid close to the crossroads for the local people to mourn the dead Queen. The coffin was then guarded inside the priory by the canons overnight before continuing on to St. Albans.[10] The original wooden cross has long since perished but a modern memorial remains.
Dunstable Town railway station (originally Dunstable Church Street) was a station on the Great Northern Railway branch line from Hatfield. It served the town of Dunstable until the passenger service ceased in 1965 under the Beeching axe. The line itself continued with a goods service serving the Bedford Trucks factory in Dunstable until well into the 1980s, and the line has never been legally decommissioned between Luton and Dunstable, although it is no longer in use. Dunstable is now one of the largest towns in south-east England without a railway connection.[1] The station was immortalised in 1964 in the song "Slow Train" by Flanders and Swann. The station was on Station Road.
