Places of interest in Stirling, FK2
Notable past Falkirk councillors include industrialist Thomas W. Howie.
Brockville Park was a football stadium which was the home of the Falkirk FC for most of the club's existence. It was situated roughly a quarter of a mile from Falkirk town centre and was regarded as one of the most intimate and intimidating venues in Scotland to watch football in.[citation needed]
On October 29th 2010, in an evening kick off, the stadium will host the Sky Sports Victory Shield match between Wales U16's and Scotland U16's
When Hibs were formed in 1875, the club played its matches on the Meadows to the south of the Old Town of Edinburgh. The club first moved to the Easter Road area in 1880, which was on the outskirts of Edinburgh at the time, to a ground known as Hibernian Park. When Hibs suffered financial difficulties in the early 1890s, the lease on Hibernian Park expired. The club then leased the present site in 1892, played their first match there the following year and have played their home games there ever since.
It is built on former industrial docklands on the north side of the city at the edge of the boundary between formerly separate ports of Newhaven and Leith. The land was formerly occupied by the Henry Robb shipyard, which closed in 1983. Since then, the entire area has undergone urban renewal and regeneration, much led by and on the lands in the ownership of Forth Ports and its predecessors.
