Royal Troon Golf Club

The Old Course has four tees ? "Ladies", "Short", "Medal" and "Championship". The lengths given are for the Championship course.

Eglinton Country Park

Ice or snow houses were introduced to the United Kingdom in around 1660 and were commonly brick lined, domed structures, with most of their volume underground. Many were 'ice cream cone ' shaped, however Eglinton's was an oval shape. They were often sited under trees and some way from the 'mansion' house.[59] Ice houses varied in design depending on the date and builder, but were mainly conical or rounded at the bottom to hold the melted ice. Rufford Abbey in Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, England had five ice houses! A drain at the bottom took meltwater away; ice houses were often built into earth banks to give extra insulation and to allow for the necessary drainage.[58] As ice houses were mainly the reserve of large manor houses, there are not many good examples left in the UK and those that are found are usually in a state of disrepair.[60]

Kilwinning East railway station

The station opened on 3 September 1888 and was simply known as Kilwinning.[2] It closed between 1 January 1917 and 1 February 1919 due to wartime economy,[2] and upon the grouping of the L&AR into the London, Midland and Scottish Railway in 1923, the station was renamed Kilwinning East on 2 June 1924.[2] The station closed permanently to regular passenger traffic on 4 July 1932.[2]

Museum of Ayrshire Country Life and Costume

The interiors of the mill buildings have been entirely restored from the derelict condition that they had fallen into.

Lady's Well

Various stones lie fallen or thrown inside the well, one possibly being the remains of the broken sandstone covering slab which the concrete slab replaced.
