Places of interest in Inveraray, PA32
Inveraray (Inbhir Aora in Gaelic) is a town Royal Burgh in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, located on the western shore of Loch Fyne near its head, and on the A83 road. It is the traditional county town of Argyll and ancestral home to the Duke of Argyll. In 1744 the third Duke of Argyll decided to demolish the existing castle and start from scratch with a new building. The castle was 40 years in construction, and the work was largely supervised by the Adam family, still renowned to this day as gifted architects and designers. The end product was not a castle in the traditional sense, but a classic Georgian mansion house on a grand scale, Inveraray Castle.
Girvan also has a folk music club which meets every Friday night in the back of the Queen's Hotel, Montgomerie Street. [5] Once a month they also have a guest artist night. Past guests include Emily Smith, Back of the Moon, the Sangsters, Ian Bruce, Adam McNaughton and Bruce Molsky.
Barry Burns, the pianist/guitarist of the Scottish instrumental group Mogwai hails from Uddingston.
Bothwell is an affluent commuter town that has attracted a number of local celebrities including a number of Old Firm footballers. Thanks to a steady rise in property prices and a thriving "Main Street", Bothwell has earned its reputation as one of Glasgow's most prosperous satellites. In fact, a recent survey published in the Scotsman revealed that Bothwell's Imperial Way, site of the former home of ex-Celtic manager Gordon Strachan, is the fifth most expensive street in Scotland.
Despite competition from the nearby large towns of East Kilbride and Hamilton, Strathaven still has a number of craft and gift shops, alongside well known town centre names. There are the usual high street banks.
