Inverurie

Inverurie is a Royal Burgh in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, approximately 16 miles (26 km) north west of Aberdeen on the A96 road and is served by Inverurie railway station on the Aberdeen to Inverness Line. The nearest airport is Aberdeen Airport at Dyce.Inverurie is said to have been founded by David of Huntingdon, Earl of the Garioch, brother of Malcolm IV, great-great-grandfather of Robert the Bruce who defeated the Comyns nearby at the Battle of Barra on Christmas Eve 1307.

Glenrothes

Further education in the town was once served by the former Glenrothes Technical College, built in the early 1970s, which specialised in paper manufacturing, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. A second institute known as FIPRE (Fife Institute of Physical and Recreational Education) was built adjacent catering for sport and physical education as well as providing a sports centre for the town.[125] Today, Glenrothes is home to two campuses of the Adam Smith College.[126] The Adam Smith College was formed on the 1 August 2005 from the merger between the former Glenrothes College and Fife College, which was based in Kirkcaldy and is now Scotland's third largest college. The main campus of the college is located at Stenton Road in Viewfield to the south of the town centre. A smaller campus also exists within the Southfield Industrial Estate.[126] The Stenton Road Campus has been significantly extended in 2010 creating the Future Skills Centre. This centre includes new departments in Engineering, Construction, Renewables and Science to cater for emerging industries specialising in renewable energy and low carbon technologies as well as provide training for major engineering projects.[127][128][129]

Markinch

The town enjoys a range of local facilities including football, bowling, tennis, a curling club, and parks. Markinch's park is dedicated to Provost John Dixon who presented it to the burgh in 1919. The much larger Balbirnie Park, formerly the property of the Balfour family, lies nearby to the northeast. The park includes a golf course, Balbirnie House Hotel, formerly the Balfour family's home and subsequently the headquarters of Glenrothes Development Corporation, before its latest reincarnation, and craft centre. The popular Markinch Highland Games are held in John Dixon park. Dougray Scott has previously opened the games. The Constituency office of Tricia Marwick, Scottish National Party, Member of the Scottish Parliament, is in the village.

Balfarg

Later during the site's use the timber circle was replaced by two concentric stone circles, again with an entrance to the west and some time after this the henge was constructed. Around 1900 BC a pit was dug in the centre of the stone circles and in it was placed the body of a young man along with a flint knife and a handled beaker.
