Places of interest in Fraserburgh, AB21
Dyce is the site of an early medieval church dedicated to the 8th century missionary and bishop St. Fergus, otherwise associated with Glamis, Angus. Today the cemetery, north of the airport, and overlooking the River Don, hosts the roofless but otherwise virtually complete former St. Fergus Chapel, within which Pictish and early Christian stones from the 7th-9th centuries, found in or around the churchyard, are displayed (Historic Scotland; open at all times without entrance charge).
There is also a Thistle Hotel and Speedbird Inn on the airport site, with a Travelodge and Marriott Hotel between the airport and the nearby Dyce railway station. Additionally, it was announced that a 175-room Hilton "Garden Inn" concept hotel will be opened on the Airport site in Autumn 2009.
Due to council reorganisation a number of suggested secondary school mergers within Aberdeen City were suggested in May 2010. One of these suggested scenarios may see Dyce Academy merge with the newly built Bucksburn Academy, but it should be stressed that this is one of many possible scenarios in the city. As yet no decision has been made and the various scenarios are out for a public consultation. At the end of this consultation the council put forward plans of a £500,000 max. refurbishment of the school. Nothing has been set in stone, but Dyce's future as an independent school looks good.
The Diocese of Brechin is twinned with the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa (Iowa, USA) and with the Anglican Diocese of Swaziland (Swaziland).
In 2007 Craig Murray, a graduate of Dundee, former British Ambassador to Uzbekistan and twice President of Dundee University Students' Association was elected and installed. In February 2010, Brian Cox CBE, an actor, was elected as the next Rector of the university. He has yet to undergo his official installation.
