MorecambeMorecambe suffered from decline for a number of years following a series of incidents that affected its tourism and local economy.[2] Two piers were lost: West End Pier was washed away in a storm in 1978 while Central Pier, though struck by fire in 1933, survived until 1992. In 1994, The World of Crinkley Bottom attraction in Happy Mount Park closed only 13 weeks after opening and the ensuing 'Blobbygate' scandal led to a legal battle between Lancaster City Council and TV star Noel Edmonds. The closures of Bubbles, Morecambe's swimming pool, and Frontierland, a fairground, soon followed.Christie Park (stadium)On 17 July 2007, however, Morecambe announced plans to move to a new stadium in time for the start of the 2010-2011 season. [2]Bare, MorecambeBare is a suburb of Morecambe, within the City of Lancaster district. It was merged in 1898.BlackburnA former mill town, textiles have been produced in Blackburn since the middle of the 13th century, when wool was woven in people's houses in the domestic system. Flemish weavers who settled in the area during the 14th century helped to develop the woollen cottage industry in the region.[4]James Hargreaves, inventor of the spinning jenny, was a weaver in Blackburn.[5] The most rapid period of growth and development in Blackburn's history coincided with the industrialisation and expansion of textile manufacturing. Blackburn was a boomtown of the Industrial Revolution, and amongst the first industrialised towns in the world.Blackburn CathedralThe North transept contains eight misericords dating from the 15th century. It is not known at what time they arrived at the Cathedral, but they are believed to have originated at Whalley Abbey. This could mean that they were removed to a builder's yard after the Dissolution, but with the cathedral not being built until the 19th century, this allows for the possibility that they had lain unused for some 300 years.Information by Wikipedia.com
