Belle Isle (Windermere)Belle Island is currently owned by Harold and Janet Lefton.WindermereIts name suggests it is a mere, a lake that is broad in relation to its depth, but despite the name this is not the case for Windermere, which in particular has a noticeable thermocline, distinguishing it from typical meres.Windermere, CumbriaWindermere is a town and civil parish in the South Lakeland District of Cumbria, England. It has a population of 8,245.[1] It lies about half a mile (1 km) away from the lake, Windermere. Although the town Windermere does not touch the lake, it has now grown together with the older lakeside town of Bowness-on-Windermere, though the two retain distinguishable town centres. There are a number of museums, but the main attraction for the tourists is the lake itself that touches Bowness at the bottom of the hill (about a twenty minute walk from the top of Windermere town). Here there is a beautiful view of the mountains. Boats from the piers in Bowness sail around the lake, many calling at Ambleside or at Lakeside where there is a restored railway.CumwhintonIt is a small village by local standards. Much smaller than, for instance, Wetheral. Despite its small size, it is home to a school, a pub, a village hall and a tiny village shop. It also had a railway station on the Settle-Carlisle Railway between Scotby and Cotehill, but this was closed to passengers in 1956.WetheralThe Newcastle to Carlisle Railway has a station here at the west end of Corby Bridge (popularly known as 'Wetheral Viaduct') over the Eden which acts also as a footbridge connecting with Great Corby. The station was closed during the Beeching cuts in 1967, but was reopened in 1981.Information by Wikipedia.com
