Great Stickle

Great Stickle is a fell located in the southern Lake District of England with an altitude of 305 m (1,000 ft). Alfred Wainwright included it in his "The Outlying Fells of Lakeland". Geographically the fell is located on the southern ridge of Stickle Pike and is located between the lower Duddon Valley (west) and the valley of Dunnerdale Beck (east). A "stickle" is a hill with a prominent rocky top.

Blackburn

The incumbent Liberal Democrats were pushed into third place behind Labour. Although the plans had been blocked by the time of the poll, proposals to convert a nursing home in the ward into a centre for asylum seekers were seen as a key election issue.[51] Developments in Burnley and Blackburn were regarded as something of a renaissance for the far right in British politics; no such councillors had been elected in the UK since victories in Tower Hamlets nearly ten years before.[52]

Blackburn Arena

The arena is owned by Peel Holdings, who purchased it from the original owners, Blackburn Council. Planning permission was granted at the time of building for an extra 1,000 or so seats at the back of the arena. It was built to coincide with Manchester's 1996 Olympic bid, with the possibility of boxing contests being held there. WCW (World Championship Wrestling) held a tour event there in 1992, and on the 26th November 1994 Rock band Status Quo held the only concert to date there from their Thirsty Work World Tour.

Blackburn Cathedral

In the early 1930s, fundraising began to enlarge the cathedral so that the building complemented its newfound importance. By 1938, enough money had been raised and work began on enlarging the new cathedral. Although work was interrupted by the war, it was resumed afterwards and continued through the 1950s and into the early 1960s. After the death of architect W.A. Forsyth in 1950, architect Laurence King joined the project and designed the distinctive lantern tower. The lantern tower, which consists of 56 different panes of coloured glass and an aluminium spire, was completed in 1967.

Lytham St Annes

There is some confusion, even among residents of the town, about whether the correct name is "St Annes" or "St Anne's". The apostrophe has been dropped from the name by many of the residents of the town and has long been absent in many formal uses, such as local newspaper the Lytham St Annes Express,[12]St Annes Parish Church,[13] and Lytham St. Annes High Technology College, although the spelling St. Anne's is still sometimes used.[14]
