Beckermet

The natural assumption is that the village is so-named because two becks (local dialect meaning streams- specifically Kirk Beck and Black Beck) meet there. However, the name is pronounced with the accent on the middle syllable (over the years, attempts by people to spell the name as they heard it have resulted in versions like Beck Armett in 1570, and Bekyremet in 1279). In the 12th century there was an h in the middle, the earliest known version, from 1130, being Bechermet, so the English Place-Name Society suggests that the name really means "hermit's stream".

Sellafield

Fellside Power Station is a 168MWe CHP gas-fired power station near the Sellafield site, which it supplies with steam and heat. It is run as Fellside Heat and Power Ltd, is wholly owned by Sellafield Ltd and is managed by PX Ltd and Doosan Babcock. It was built in 1993, being originally equally owned by BNFL and Scottish Hydro Electric (which became Scottish and Southern Energy in December 1998). The station uses three General Electric Frame 6001B gas turbines, with power entering the National Grid via a 132kV transformer. BNFL bought SSE's 50% share in January 2002.[32]

Yealand Conyers

Yealand Conyers is a village and civil parish in the English county of Lancashire. It is part of the City of Lancaster district.

Poulton-le-Fylde

In the 17th century Civil Wars, townspeople of Poulton fought on both sides, although more men from the Fylde were on the side of the Royalists.[13] No battles occurred in or close to Poulton but the area was affected with the rest of the county by the widespread poverty that resulted from the wars.[25] In 1643 interest was stirred in the parish when a large Spanish vessel dropped anchor off the coast at Rossall.[26] The ship made no movement for several days but fired its guns occasionally.[27] Locals initially feared an invasion, but eventually realised that the crew was in distress and had been signalling for help.[28] The vessel was carrying ammunition for the Parliamentarian forces and the crew had become sick and feeble. The ship was brought by Royalists into the mouth of the River Wyre and the Earl of Derby marched from across the River Ribble. He ordered the ship to be burnt and the Spanish crew to be set free.[26]

Christie Park (stadium)

The uncovered stand (the Carwash Terrace), took its name from the Carwash directly behind it on Lancaster Road. The supporters' club building that used to be behind it was knocked down late in 2006 and the club then received planning permission to build a new stand on its site comprising of sponsors' facilities, conference rooms and offices.
