AmblesideThe name came from Old Norse Á-mel-sǽtr = "river ? sandbank ? summer pasture".Loughrigg FellAn easy way up Loughrigg is from the White Moss car park, on the A591 between Grasmere and Rydal Water. This simple walk entails only around 700ft (210 m) of ascent over 1.5miles (2.4 km). From the car park a trail leads through woods onto Loughrigg Terrace. From the end of the terrace a path leads up left steeply over steps to the wide, undulating top area. Ascents are also possible from any of the surrounding settlements with manifold variations.Rydal, CumbriaLocated mid-way between Ambleside and Grasmere, the small cluster of houses, church and hotel are significant in the history of English Romantic literature. Not only was William Wordsworth the occupier of Rydal Mount from 1813 to 1850, but Dr. Thomas Arnold ? the famous headmaster of Rugby School ? had a summer home at Fox How in nearby Under Loughrigg. Arnold's son, the poet Matthew Arnold, was a frequent visitor and a close friend of Wordsworth. At the northern end of Rydal Water is White Moss House, believed to be the only house owned by Wordsworth, he bought it for his son, Willie and it remained in the Wordsworth family until the 1930s.[1]Thornton-CleveleysOn April 1, 1974, the urban district became part of the Borough of Wyre. Thornton-Cleveleys corresponds with six wards of the borough.KendalKendal is served by a long distance coach service from London (once per day) and local buses run from the bus station to destinations such as Ambleside and Barrow in Furness.Information by Wikipedia.com
