Chester Golf Club

Chester is one of the oldest established golf clubs in the county of Cheshire. The club has a full calendar of competitions and inter-club matches, as well as opportunities for friendly golf. The clubhouse offers all the usual amenities eg licensed bar. Visitors are welcome.

Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

In 1983, a new A&E department and general hospital unit opened on the site, which was then renamed Countess of Chester, in honour of one the Princess of Wales's more obscure titles. The naming ceremony was performed by the Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales.

Chester

Of the medieval city the most important surviving structure is Chester Castle, particularly the Agricola Tower. Much of the rest of the castle has been replaced by the neoclassical county court and its entrance, the Propyleum.[53] To the south of the city runs the River Dee, with its 11th century weir. The river is crossed by the Old Dee Bridge, dating from the 13th century, the Grosvenor Bridge of 1832, and Queen's Park suspension bridge (for pedestrians).[54] To the southwest of the city the River Dee curves towards the north. The area between the river and the city walls here is known as the Roodee, and contains Chester Racecourse which holds a series of horse races and other events.[55] The Shropshire Union Canal runs to the north of the city and a branch leads from it to the River Dee.[56]

Chester Shot Tower

The leadworks closed in 2001, with Calder relocating to West Chester.[3] Most of the remaining buildings of the leadworks, with the exception of the shot tower, were demolished around 2004 to make way for urban regeneration of the canal-side area.[3] A small park by the canal on part of the former site was opened in May 2006.[6] The park contains a sculpture in stainless steel and blue glass which commemorates Chester's lead industry; 'Spheres of Reflection' by Edd Snell was inspired by lead drops impacting on the surface of water.[6]
