Houghton-le-Spring

Houghton-le-Spring (pronounced /ˈhoʊtən/) is part of the City of Sunderland in the county of Tyne and Wear, North East England that has its recorded origins in Norman times. It is situated almost equidistant between the cathedral city of Durham 7 miles (11.3 km) to the south-west and the centre of the City of Sunderland about 6 miles (9.7 km) to the north-east. The town of Seaham and the North Sea lie about 5 miles (8 km) directly to the east. The towns of Newbottle, Fencehouses and Hetton-le-Hole lie nearby. It has a population of 36,746. Other towns within the Houghton-le-Spring postal district include: Shiney Row, Fencehouses, Chilton Moor and Woodstone Village.

The Boldons

The recently-built Quadrus Centre at Boldon Business Park houses entrepreneurial businesses and acts as a gateway to South Tyneside on the main A19 trunk road. The building features a modern design[citation needed] within its lakeside setting. The building is illuminated at night in a range of colours and has won many awards for its iconic design.

Riverside Ground

The development of the Riverside into a significant cricketing venue was underscored in 1999, when it hosted World Cup matches involving Pakistan, Scotland, Australia and Bangladesh, and then in 2000 when it staged the first One Day International match in the NatWest Triangular Series between England, Zimbabwe and the West Indies. In 2001 a One-day International between Australia and Pakistan was scheduled, but abandoned due to weather conditions.

Pelton, Durham

Pelton is a village in County Durham, in England. It is located to the northwest of Chester-le-Street. The village of West Pelton is located some distance to the west; separated from it by a few villages and closer to Stanley than to central Chester-le-Street. Pelton has two public houses, one RAOB club and a small range of convenience stores, including a greengrocers, three general stores, a Post Office, chemist, doctors surgery, dentist, no fewer than five take-away food outlets, and a number of hair salons. Local schools in the area include a primary school (Pelton Primary school) and a secondary school and Sixth Form College (Roseberry Sports and Community College) in Newfield. Pelton is very well served by public transport, with links to Stanley, Sunderland, Newcastle, Chester le Street and Consett.
