Beds and Mattresses Moisture and dirt cause molds and mildew. To avoid these, wrap your mattress with a shrink wrap or use large mattress bags. Tape all the corners of the box spring or use padding to protect it from damage. Couches and chairs Detach all removable parts of the furniture. Then, place all bolts, nuts and screws in a small plastic bag. Don't forget to label it with the name of the furniture it came from. Pillows and cushions should be placed in large, clear plastics bags. Be sure to seal it to prevent dust and moisture. Same thing goes with the arms and corners of couches and sofas. Desks and dressers When packing desks, bureaus and dresses, make sure you secure them with packing tape to keep them from falling out during the transfer. Bubble wraps and towels should be used to wrap each item. They provide excellent support and protection. Alternatively, you can apply wax to fine wood furnishings to prevent scratches. Mirrors, hanging fixtures and floor lamps These items need to be wrapped individually with bubble wrap and towels. Before wrapping, make sure you remove the bulb of the lamp.
