The most expensive moving season is summer. When choosing your moving day, try not to schedule it between May to September. Consider scheduling your moving day during the weekdays as well. Setting the moving day on a holiday or during weekends means overtime pay for loaders and packers.
Packing for the Moving Day
You can start packing 6 to 8 weeks prior your moving day. This is the best time to sort out the stuff you wish to keep and the stuff that may not be useful in your new home. Gather all the things you don't want and donate them to charities or arrange a garage sale. Not only you will have more space in your home, but you will raise additional money for your move.
If you choose to do partial packing of full packing by yourself, start collecting boxes and packing supplies to aid you in your task. One you are done, create a storage room for your boxes. Finish packing one room at a time so you won't forget anything. Don't forget to label the contents and boxes to make the unpacking and arranging in your new home easier.         
Hiring a Moving Company
Spend time in finding a reputable moving company by searching through the yellow pages, internet or referrals. Find a moving company that has valid license and applicable insurance. You can also check their reviews if there are any complaints in their services. Before signing anything, make sure everything is clear about the estimates and the average costs of their services.
The packing process alone requires more time than you can expect. That's why it is important to start planning ahead of the moving day, so you can use the spared time at other important matters.
