How to Do a Move-In and Move-Out Inspection and Report
Published on Thursday, 09 December 2010 If you own or manage an apartment or house, it is your duty to protect and maintain the integrity of the property. So if you are renting it out, you need to make an inspection and of course, document it to protect your interest. Before a tenant moves in it is important that you inspect the unit first. You should check out the unit and list down all the items like furniture and appliances inside the unit. You also have to take note of the damages there as well though. It would be better if you take photos of the damages so you have a proof of its extent. All in all, this would give you a record of the state of the unit. This will be important when the tenant moves out. Again an inspection should be done upon move out. You need to make an inventory of its contents to make sure that all furniture and appliances are still complete. Otherwise you would have to charge for the loss. If some of the items or the unit is damaged it is also a cause for additional charges. If the security deposit is enough, then you would just have to subtract the amount. If the cost of the damage or loss is bigger though, you would have to seek for the amount. Again taking photos would be important as this would be your proof later on. It would solve disputes earlier for sure.
