Morden station was opened on 13 September 1926[3] with the opening of the new extension of the City & South London Railway from Clapham Common. Morden in 1926 was a rural area and the station was built on open farmland giving its designer, Charles Holden, more space than had been available for the majority of the stations on the new extension. A parade of shops was incorporated into the design each side of the imposing station entrance and the structure was designed from the beginning with the intention of enabling upward development, however this did not come until the 1960s when an office building was added.
Several events are held at the Bait'ul Futuh Mosque to serve both the Muslim and greater community. In addition to regular prayers, its services include an annual Peace Symposiums, school tours, other local community events, as well as the 'Merton Youth Partnership Annual Conference'[4], hosting the BBC Radio 4 Programme Any Questions? [5], and is included in Open House London.[6]
St Lawrence Church is the Church of England parish church for Morden in London Borough of Merton. The building is located on London Road, at the highest point of Morden, overlooking Morden Park.
The Mayor also acts as the ceremonial and civic head of the borough during his/her year of office and the post is non-political. Each year the Mayor also chooses two charities which will benefit from a series of fundraising events throughout the mayoral year.
