Places of interest in Ealing, W5
North Ealing is a London Underground station on the Uxbridge branch of the Piccadilly Line between Ealing Common and Park Royal. The station is located on Station Road, a short distance from the junction of Queens Drive and Hanger Lane (A406, North Circular Road). It is in Travelcard Zone 3.
Between 1664 and 1674 a Richard Slaney paid Hearth Tax on a building on the site of the present-day Pitzhanger Manor for 16 hearths. This provides a rough indication of the (considerable) size of the property as it then was.
Metropolitan District Railway (MDR, now the District Line) services commenced on 1 July 1879, when the MDR opened a new branch from Turnham Green on its Richmond line. The MDR built its own three-platform station to the north of the GWR one, although following the installation of a connection between the two railways to the east of the stations, MDR trains also served the GWR station from 1 March 1883, on a short-lived service running to Windsor and Eton Central station, which was withdrawn as unremunerative on 30 September 1885.[4][5][6][7] It was also intended to use the connection for a service to Uxbridge Vine Street station (via West Drayton), which was never introduced.[4]
Harlesden station is a Network Rail station on Acton Lane in north London, served by London Overground and by London Underground Bakerloo line trains. The railway line here is the border between the Harlesden and Stonebridge residential area in the east, and the Park Royal industrial estate to the west. The southern end of Wembley Yard separates the station from the West Coast Main Line.
Willesden Junction was depicted as 'Tenway Junction' the site of the suicide of Ferdinand Lopez in Anthony Trollope's novel The Prime Minister.[4]
