In 1535 George Monoux, Alderman of London and Master of the Drapers' Company, repaired the north aisle and built a chapel on the east end of it. This extended eastward alongside the chancel. At the same time, Monoux demolished the top 40 feet of the tower and rebuilt it in Tudor brick, adding a circular stairway in the south-east corner. In the same year, money from Robert Thorne (a wealthy London merchant who, like Monoux, originated from Bristol and became Lord Mayor of the City of London) was used to completely rebuild the south aisle and to add a chapel on its eastern end.

The Victoria Miro Gallery is a leading[1] British contemporary art gallery in London, with an international reputation,[2] run by Victoria Miro, one of the "grandes dames of the Britart scene", who first exhibited Chris Ofili and the Chapman Brothers.[3] She opened her first gallery in 1985 in Cork Street, where she became one of the principal dealers,[4] then moved to much larger premises adjacent to Hoxton in 2000.[3] Her sale of Ofili's work, The Upper Room, to the Tate gallery in 2005 caused a media furore,[5] as Ofili was a serving trustee of the Tate, which was censured by the Charity Commission.[6] The gallery represents Turner Prize winners, Ofili and Grayson Perry.[7]
Essex Road is a station on the proposed Chelsea-Hackney line. This scheme is currently being pursued by the developers of Crossrail. It would connect the station to the London Underground network for the first time since the Northern City Line was transferred away from the Northern Line. It would be located between Angel and Dalston Junction. Trains would go to King's Cross St. Pancras, Epping and South West London. [2]
