Hayle

Conclusion The lives of Saint Samson and Saint Petroc report that both saints arrived in Cornwall at the Hayle Estuary, indicating that it was an established port at least by the 6th century.[3] While physical and documentary evidence indicates that the port continued to be of importance through the Middle Ages, it was the Industrial Revolution that saw the town and port of Hayle grow to resemble the town as seen today.

The Towans

Upton Towans was the site of an explosives factory and is occasionally referred to as Dynamite Towans. The National Explosives Works was established in 1888 to supply the needs of local mines. The company also manufactured explosives for the Royal Navy during World War I.

Phillack

The church was originally the parish church also of Hayle: it was built in the 15th century and rebuilt in 1856 by William White but the tower is original. The font is probably not medieval; half a coped stone is in the churchyard.[3]
