University College Falmouth

In 1902, Falmouth School of Art was a wholly private venture and offered classes such as Freehand Drawing, Model Drawing, Painting from Still Life, Drawing from the Antique, Drawing in Light & Shade, and Memory Drawing of Plant Form. Students were charged between four and ten shillings per session for the privilege, and were offered the opportunity to enter for Board of Education exams.

Falmouth, Cornwall

The news of Britain's victory (and Admiral Nelson's death) at Trafalgar was landed here from the schooner Pickle and taken to London by stagecoach.On 2 October 1836 HMS Beagle anchored at Falmouth at the end of its famous survey voyage round the world.[7] That evening, Charles Darwin left the ship and took the Mail coach to his family home at The Mount, Shrewsbury.[8] The ship stayed a few days and Captain Robert Fitzroy visited the Fox family at nearby Penjerrick Gardens. Darwin's shipmate Sulivan later made his home in nearby waterside village of Flushing, then home to many naval officers.

Kenwyn

Kenwyn Parish Church is more or less 14th and 15th century in date: (south aisle and tower 15th century). Restorations (1820 to 1862) have reduced the interior to its present uninteresting state. The churchyard provides a fine view over the city of Truro and above the lychgate is an upper chamber (probably a schoolroom).

Hall for Cornwall

The building we see today was built in 1846 from Carn Brea granite originally housing the Town Hall, magistrates and stannary courts, police offices, cells and the fire brigade. In 1909 plans were drawn up to change the building into a public hall. This culminated in it being leased for a skating rink and occasional picture house. In 1914 disaster struck when a fire gutted most of the building and in 1925 remodelling took place to accommodate a stage suitable for the presentation of plays.
