Much Hadham is a village and civil parish in the district of East Hertfordshire, Hertfordshire, England, formerly known as Great Hadham. It is situated on the B1004 road, midway between Ware and Bishop's Stortford. At the 2001 census the population recorded was 1,994.[1]
Enfield Town F.C. is (as of May 2007) in Division 1 (North) of the Isthmian League. The club plays at Goldsdown Road, Enfield.[4]
Hertford Castle was built on a site first fortified by Edward the Elder around 911. By the time of the Norman Invasion in 1066, a motte and bailey were on the site surrounded by a moat. William the Conqueror granted the castle to Peter de Valoignes, the Sheriff of Hertfordshire and Essex.
Hertford has many food, drink and entertainment establishments which have grown in number considerably since the eighties and nineties. It attracts people from nearby towns, and often the North London suburbs. There are approximately 25 pubs and clubs in the area,[15] and around 35 restaurants, takeaways and snack bars.[16] Hertford also hosts swimming pool and gym facilities, and has also recently acquired a small skatepark, based in Hartham Common.
Hoddesdon is the only small town in Britain with a sizeable Italian community. Italians emigrated to the Lee Valley in the 1950s and 60s to work in the nearby garden nurseries, and they and many of their descendants are still resident in the area. The Festival of San Antonio is celebrated annually in June in Hoddesdon with a street parade.
