Stanford-le-HopeOften known locally simply as Stanford, the town is home to many working-class commuters working in London, thanks to its proximity to the capital and its c2c-operated London, Tilbury and Southend Railway rail connections. One of the main local industries is the nearby oil refinery at Shell Haven, and it soon will be home to the proposed DP World deep sea port, major business and logistics park. Many residents also travel along the nearby A13 to work in the Lakeside Shopping Centre.Roman Catholic Diocese of BrentwoodThe diocese was erected on 20 July 1917 from the Archdiocese of Westminster. The current bishop is the Right Reverend Thomas McMahon, the 6th Bishop of Brentwood.The Sawyers Hall College of Science and TechnologyApproximately 520 pupils currently attend the school, with very few students from minority ethnic backgrounds and a higher proportion of boys than the national average.[1] The school logo is traditionally that of a Griffin. However, when the school achieved specialist college status its motif was modernised; it is now a two panelled shield with a griffin above a diagram of an atom.
