In 2008 the Daily Telegraph found Brentwood to be Britain's 19th richest town. The Daily Telegraph cited Brentwood's private schools, open parks, good motorway access and a 35-minute train ride to London's Liverpool Street as reasons why it was chosen. A sizable proportion of the housing stock in Brentwood is characterised with large detached "mansions".[22]

In 1568 the school moved to a purpose built school room, which still remains, the commemoration stone of which was laid by Browne's stepdaughter Dorothy Huddleston, and her husband Edward, Browne having died in 1567.[1]
In the 2001 Census, the borough has a population of 218,307 ? of whom 105,148 were male, and 113,159 female. Of the population, 44.25% were in full-time employment and 11.63% in part-time employment ? compared to a London average of 42.64% and 8.62%, respectively. Residents were predominantly owner-occupiers, with 31.71% owning their house outright, and a further 46.53% owning with a mortgage. Only 2.18% were in local authority housing, with a further 11.45% renting from a housing association, or other registered social landlord.[9]
The house is currently used for public functions and is opened to the public on certain open days. The estate's stable block is now a public house, the Danson Stables.
